OBJECTIVES FOR GRADE 1
By the end of grade 1, students will be able to:

defensive stances and positioning.
5. Explore stability and locomotor skill adaptations for basic
offensive and defensive stances and positioning.
6. Combine locomotor and nonlocomotor movements into sequences
that express ideas and emotions.
Acquire Fundamental Movement Patterns/Skills
7. Use locomotor skills with a partner and in small groups in
specific rhythmic movement sequences.
8. Throw a variety of objects for both distance and accuracy.
9. Continuously send and receive sport balls with a partner while
moving in a large-group setting.
10. Combine sending and receiving skills in small-group and
lead-up activities.

11. Use fundamental and specific skills in combinations while

rolling, balancing, and transferring weight.
2. Consistently use mature form components when batting,
striking, volleying, and dribbling.
3. React with/to the correct hand, foot, direction, and person in
response to basic square dance cues.
4. Strike objects with longer implements, incorporating distance,
accuracy, and flight factors.
5. Dribble a ball with control while evading an opponent.
6. Consistently volley a ball while in a group setting.
7. Pass/throw and catch/receive and object while guarded.
Acquire Fundamental Movement Patterns/Skills
8. Cooperate in small groups to maintain "team" possession of an
object in lead-up games with active opponents.
9. Combine locomotor and manipulative skills to move an object
toward and into a designated goal.
10. Create and perform a repeatable rope jump routine to music.
Acquire Fitness Skills and Behavior
11. Participate in vigorous activity for a sustained period of
time while maintaining a target heart rate of 150 beats per
minute (25 beats for a 10-second count).
12. Monitor recovery from vigorous physical activity (heart rate
below 100 bpm after 10 minutes).
13. Regularly monitor heart rate during and after activity.
14. Participate in games, sports, dance, and outdoor pursuits,
both in and outside of school, based on individual interests,
skill, and fitness level.
15. Correctly demonstrate activities designed to improve and/or

3. Individual and partner strength and self-testing challenges.
4. Recreational relays, games, and group activities.
B. Explore basic outdoor recreation activities such as the
following:
5. Bicycling, hiking, camping, skating (adapt to local options).
C. Acquire fitness skills and behaviors.
6. Create and perform appropriate fitness routines to music.
7. Participate in lifetime physical activities on a regular
basis.
8. Participate in activities designed to improve and/or maintain
muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and
cardiorespiratory function at least three times per week.
9. Regularly monitor resting, activity, and recovery heart rates.
10. Assess own physical fitness and skills based on individual
activity interests.
11. Participate in some form of physical activity in and/or out
of school on a daily basis.

C. Acquire fitness skills and behaviors.
7. Participate in some form of physical activity in and/or out of

minimum of 20 minutes.
9. Sustain an aerobic activity, maintaining personal target heart
rate, to achieve cardiovascular benefits at least three times per
week.
