SMORE's And SNL Roll On This Summer

Summer does NOT equal slowdown for SMORE's and SNL. I've beenimpressed with the number of people I'm seeing on Sunday mornings(we've been averaging 30-40, even during the summer). It's a bitmore laid back at times, and we have some interesting topics anddiscussions at SMORE's.

SNL will still meet from time to time. We'll open the airconditioned Youth House to kick back and take it easy.

SNL MEETS- June 29th (look ahead for our plans), July 13th (?),20th, and 27th.

Come on over for good food, fun, and all kinds of activities atSNL this summer!

Frisbee Golf and Picnic June 29th

We have something special planned for SNL on Sunday, June 29th. Beginning at 4:00 PM, we'll gather at Skyview Park and Lake for anafternoon of Frisbee Golf and a Picnic (with other activities aswell). Enter the park off of 18th Street. We'll be in a shelter orpicnic area on the NE side.

We'll start with the new Frisbee Golf course. Even if you don'tthink that you can toss a Frisbee (or that it will automatically headfor the lake), consider giving it a try. OR, you could even "caddy"for a friend. There are 18 "holes" on the north and west side of thelake (some easier than others). The goal isn't to see who can scorethe lowest, but to just have a fun time (and try to avoid the waterhazards!). We only have about 4-5 Frisbees, so if you have one (orany extras) PLEASE bring them along.

After we have done enough flinging for an afternoon, we'll gatherin a shelter for a picnic and other activities (TBA). 6 foot subsand drinks will be provided. Please bring a snack ("nibbler") toshare. This is a guess, but we should be done somewhere around 7:00PM (this depends on how long we take "golfing"). If the weather isbad, we'll gather at the Youth House for a movie and sub night at thesame time. GET YOUR ARMS READY for a fun afternoon at Skyview!

Other Summer Plans

Golfing- I'm not afraid to show you how HORRIBLE my golf game is(just warn the squirrels, birds, fish, and trees before we start). I'd like to put together a time when those of you who are interestedcould get out and hit the links for a day/afternoon. If you would beinterested in this, PLEASE send me an e-mail at clcsteve@cableone.netor give me a call. Indicate what days and times would work best foryou. FORE!!!!!!!

Grand Island Oasis Trip- We've run into a few challenges puttingthis together. But I'm not giving up hope. We hope to take a day totravel to GI to the Island Oasis waterpark and enjoy it. If thechallenges can be worked out, I'll let you know more later.

National Youth Gathering Registration Drawing Closer

Next July will be a once in a lifetime experience for us. Nearly40,000 teenagers from around the country will gather in Orlando,Florida for the National Youth Gathering. Here's the latest infothat I have for you.

Events at the Gathering- Mass Gatherings where all 40,000 peoplewill gather for a skit (based on the theme "Beyond Imagination") thatwill take all five days. Music, drama, devotions that meansomething, nationally known guest presenters, and memorablepresentations. On Sunday morning, we will take part in a Communionservice (it's unforgettable) with the entire gathering. Small group(if you call 500+ people small) interest sessions on a variety oftopics with great speakers.

Servant Events (we will hopefully take part in one) at sitesscattered around the Orlando area. Dances in the evening. Aconvention center filled with information booths of interest toteenagers and even an indoor carnival and games area.

Where We'll Stay- We'll be assigned a hotel in Orlando. They willhave a shuttle bus system to move us around.

When Is Registration?- We're looking at September as the month toregister. Once I have all the materials late in August, I will puttogether a detailed mailing of what to expect as well as the formsthat you will need to fill out (a necessary evil). I wouldanticipate there being a $75 deposit due with registration.

How Many Can We Take?- We can take up to 55 people. I amanticipating that 30-40 will be going at this time. If you receivethis Youth Update, you are eligible to go.

Cost- At this time, I am anticipating that the total cost will bearound $450-500 per person. That covers your transportation, lodging, convention expenses, and fun day activity. That's whyfundraising is so important.

Dates and Times- We will depart on Thursday, July 22, 2004 byplane for Orlando. Friday, July 23rd will be our "fun day" at a siteTBD. The Gathering is July 24th thorough noon on Wednesday, July28th.
