Hopefully you are all adjusting well to thestart of school (and aren't TOO overwhelmed with homework and suchas of yet). We have several things in the works that should beof interest to you this weekend.
<*dv_0*>What About Horoscopes? Do you know someonewho reads their horoscope and follows it almost "religiously"? What's the big deal about them? Should anyone really take themseriously? What does the Bible say about them? These and other questions you may have about them will be the focus of SMORE'sthis Sunday morning from 9:30-10:30 AM at the Youth House. Bring a friend along.
<*dv_1*>Youth Counselor and Student Reps Meeting After SMORE's - Several of you have been asking who our student reps are. To clarify, a student rep is someone who is interested inwhat we are doing in the Youth Group, would like to see thingscontinue to move forward, wants to take a role in planning futureactivities, and is willing to take the time to come to a meetingonce a month to take care of this. In general, there have beenanywhere from 3-5 students per class (each grade level) that havetaken time to do this. But I wouldn't mind seeing more studentstake an active role in this. They join with our adult YouthCounselors to help plan ahead.
<*dv_2*>Our next meeting will be this Sunday morning following SMORE's from 10:30-around 11:15 AM at the YouthHouse. We will be looking at the Fall schedule and discussingplanning details for the National Youth Gathering (among otherthings). Help shape the future for the Youth Group. Takean active part in planning this Sunday morning following SMORE's.
SNL Cookout This Sunday Evening - We'llhave a cookout (burgers, brats, and hot dogs) this week for SNLafter having a quite good turnout last Sunday. The game room should be completed by this Sunday (all we're missing is the airhockey table), and many of you enjoyed the changes in it lastweek. The rooms will be open (if you feel like it, bring somehomework to work on in small groups), and there will be plenty ofthings to do. Please bring a "nibbler" to share (our cupboardsare still rather bare). This will be the last SNL until Sunday, September 14th (next week is Labor Day weekend, the followingis Beef Blast), so come on over for a fun and relaxing time from6:00-7:30 PM.
<*dv_3*>National Youth Gathering Registration InfoIn About Two Weeks - I've already begun work on a large mailing about the National Youth Gathering. Registration informationfor this should arrive in my office around Labor Day. As soonas it is here, I'll pass it on to you. You will have a form ortwo to fill out (yes, more forms) and a registration deposit of $110(your total cost, split over 5 payments over the next 10 months,will be $550, a bargain for a 7 day trip with the Gathering itself,a visit to an Orlando theme park, and other things in theworks). Registration will close on October 1st. Keepyour eyes on the mail for this packet in the next 2 weeks or so (I'lllet you know via e-mail when I receive the registration packet soyou will have a day or two notice and can watch the mail).
It's my hope and prayer that school is goingwell and that you aren't finding yourself too stressed outyet. I look forward to seeing many of you this weekend.
