Building Security/Changes

In light of recent events in Norfolk, our state, and nation, the Board of Education has decided to implement some changes that will help to ensure the safety and security of our students and building.

<*dv_0*>As you know, the south door serves as the main entrance to the school.   This door is not observed by anyone on our staff due to the location of the office.   Sadly, when our building was constructed issues involving security were not a concern to anyone.   The Board is aware that it is unlikely that anything bad will result from this lack of a supervised entrance.   However, we felt it is best to err on the side of caution when it comes to the children who enter our building everyday.

<*dv_5*>With that in mind the following changes will be put into place beginning on Thursday, December 1:

1.             The south entrance will remain open until school begins at 8:00 a.m.

<*dv_1*>2.             At 8:00 a.m. this door will be locked by school personnel.

3.             After 8:00 a.m. the door) on the west side of the building (Biblical Garden) will be the only one that                  remains unlocked.

4.             If you arrive late your child will have to walk around to that door.

5.             Parents and other guests who wish to enter the building during the day will need to walk around to                  this door to gain entrance to the building.

<*dv_2*>6.             At school dismissal time the south door will once again be opened.

7.             The south door will remain unlocked during after school hours to allow after school activities to                  take place.

<*dv_3*>We realize that this will not be as convenient as there is not parking available near the west door.   However, it was decided that the safety of our students was worth any inconvenience

<*dv_6*>We also realize that there may be some other solutions to this concern.   With that in mind a committee will be formed to investigate and recommend alternatives.   If you would like to serve on this committee, please contact Mr. Meyer.

<*dv_4*>Thank you for you understanding and support of these measures that will help keep our students safe.
